Sensei Tomas Patko - Chief Instructor

Sensei Patko is the Chief Instructor and Master of the Dojo at Full Contact Martial Arts (FCMA). He brings over 21 years experience in martial arts and personal security. Sensei Patko holds a 5th degree Black Belt in Karate, 5th degree Black Belt in Aikido, and 1st degree Black Belt in Shaolin Kung Fu.  Sensei Patko has vast hands-on experience with real life combat situations faced by untrained persons as well as the more highly trained professional. He has taught women's assault prevention classes and seminars at body guard training courses. Sensei oversees the daily operations of the Dojo and the teaching of all students and Black Belts. He is experienced in swords and is additionally trained in the use of sticks, bo and jo staff, nunchucks, and knives.  Born in Hungary when it was controlled by Communists, he had a traditional approach in his personal training through his experience as an immigrant growing up in California. As a result, he now brings traditional values and "old world" emotional and physical self discipline to his teaching.

Senior Instructor Thomas Pfeil

Mr. Pfeil is a Senior Instructor who holds a 3rd degree Black Belt in Karate and has been associated with the dojo for over 18 years. A dedicated student, he is continuing his martial arts training in Aikido and advanced weapons as well as teaching others.  He is knowledgeable in the use of the bo and jo staff, broad sword, sticks and sai.  Mr. Pfeil specializes in freestyle self-defense, utilizing real world attitudes and techniques that are required to be successful in a physical confrontation. Mr. Pfeil is a person whom few would want to confront because of his innate ability to assess a potential dangerous situation and quickly eliminate any and all threats in a decisive (and painful) manner.  His long term commitment to training students and his martial arts expertise makes him an invaluable instructor and a unique asset to our dojo.

Instructor Michael Chennault

Mr. Chennault, a 2nd degree Black Belt in Karate, has been training in martial arts for most of his adult life is an expert in the use of the bo and jo staff, sai, and sword.  Receiving his Black Belt at the age of 44, he brings a unique approach to teaching and continued training in the martial arts.  As a professional counselor (Ombudsman) at a major University, Mr. Chennault understands the needs of professional adults to deal with a potentially violent situation while keeping their ego in check.  As a result, he utilizes that knowledge to teach serious adult students (who must still maintain their family and professional obligations) how to defend themselves with minimum injury to themselves as well as their assailants.  A very spiritual person, he insists his students are aware of the harm and injury they can cause others based upon the knowledge he passes to his students.

Instructor Richard Flood

Mr. Flood, a Black Belt in Karate, has been training in martial arts for many years.  Originally from Chicago, his father (a Chicago police detective) instilled in him at a very young age the value of service to the community and his country.  Mr. Flood, a decorated Marine Corps veteran, brings actual combat and real world experience to this training and teaching.  Mr. Flood's expertise in the practical uses of traditional martial arts and street weapons includes knives, clubs, swords and he is an expert in the use of firearms.  Mr. Flood is able to install the martial spirit while understanding and imparting the limitations and realities of civilian life to his students.  Mr. Flood received his black belt in Karate which started a thirst for continued training and learning in the martial arts.  He has continued to expand his martial ways by his continued training in American Karate & Aiki-Jujutsu (AKAJ), Weapons and Aikido.

Instructor Jeff Wheeler

Mr. Jeff Wheeler, an Instructor and Black Belt in Aikido has been associated with the dojo for over 13 years. Mr. Wheeler is the direct Sempai (senior student under) of Sensei Tomas Patko who is the direct Sempai of Shihan Robert McCreary who is the direct Sempai of Shihan Nickolas Hoff who is the direct Sempai of Soke Shoto Morita, thereby continuing the lineage of one of the most difficult martial arts to learn and teach in the world. While Aikido is a very traditional, complex and often difficult to understand martial art; once mastered it is virtually impossible to defeat an Aikido practitioner. In addition to Mr. Wheelers deep knowledge and understanding of Aikido, he is also considered an expert with the use of the Samurai sword, a weapon used for combat fighting during a more civilized time.

Instructor Vincent Marquez

Mr. Vincent Marquez, an Instructor and Black Belt in Karate has been training for over 11 years and is continuing his training at the dojo in AKAJ (American Karate and AikiJujutsu). Mr. Marquez started at Irvine Martial Arts at a young age and continued training at Full Contact Martial Arts when he became an adult. His knowledge of the basis of martial arts is critical in teaching new students the how’s and why’s during their beginning stages of study. Additionally, he has trained in the use of the sword, staff, Japanese fighting sticks and knives. While Mr. Marquez is younger than many of our Instructors, it would be a grave mistake for someone to test their skills against his on the street.

Visiting Instructor Greg Haynes

Mr. Haynes, has been with the dojo from the beginning of his training and obtained his Black Belt in Karate while training at the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Academy.  This was an almost impossible task that demonstrated what his mental and physical martial arts training allowed him to accomplish. He has over 13 years experience in the martial arts and is currently working as a San Bernardino County Sheriff .   When not busy with his law enforcement duties, Mr. Haynes teaches at the dojo, where he shows students the finer techniques involved in sparring and street self-defense. He has been trained in the use of firearms, baton, sai and bo staff.  Because of Mr. Haynes physical prowess (6'4" height) and street savvy, he presents a great challenge to most students, which tests their mental and overall martial arts skills.

Visiting Senior Instructor John Tegtmeier

Sensei Tegtmeier, a Senior Instructor, holds a 2nd degree Black Belt in Karate and 1st degree Black Belt in Shaolin Kung Fu.  A personal student of Shihan Robert for over 20 years, he continues his training through trips to the dojo and participation in tests.  Sensei Tegtmeier, a soft spoken person shows how one can appear gentle and still possess the ability to completely devastate an opponent.  He specializes in close-in fighting utilizing his hands, knees, elbows and (when necessary) street weapons .  Mr. Tegtmeier is well-trained in the bo and jo staff, sai, nunchuka, various swords, eskrima sticks and (of course) knives.

Visiting Instructor Jon Parr

Mr. Jon Parr, an Associate Instructor, holds black belts in Kung Fu and Karate. A student of both Shihan Robert McCreary and Sensei Tomas Patko, he has been involved with the dojo for over 20 years. As a professional artist (many of his pieces adorn beautiful homes and well respected business in the Northern California area), Mr. Parr understands the uniqueness of movement and technique and applies that same understanding to his martial arts; thus making him an excellent student and Instructor. He currently teaches martial arts in the Oakland Bay area as well as at the dojo during the times when he is back for his continuous training. Many of our students and Instructors train with him when they are at his dojo in Northern California. Additionally, he is trained in the use of the katana (the wooden sword); sai; bo and jo staff and considered an expert by the International Martial Arts Association, North American Karate Federation and the World Martial Arts Federation in the use of nunchuka and eskrima sticks. Using this unique understanding applied with weapons makes Mr. Parr one of the most dangerous martial artists in the United States today.
